About the Author & the Book.
When I decided to write a book, two critical criteria were obvious.
The targeted market segments and the genre.​ ​
Here is why:
​I have always been fascinated by the human brain and its functioning. I remember reading that the human brain comprises billions of cells called neurons. At birth, most of these neurons are raw and not connected to each other. A connection is made between two or more neurons only when new information is received in the brain. This connection is called a “synapse.” ​I also read that by age 5, the brain is fully ripe and ready to receive a barrage of information and create synoptical memory formation. This explains why kids as young as 5 or 6 can comfortably grasp instructions, memorize, and gain proficiency in multiple languages and musical instruments like piano or violin. The flip side is that the unused raw neurons can no longer synapse after a certain age and become useless.
The window of opportunity, therefore, to optimize brain development is tiny. ​So, when I was contemplating writing a book, my twin 6-year-old granddaughters had already started reading and comprehending. According to scientific research, they were in the right age group for optimizing their cognitive skills development.
​Since they inspired me, it was logical to write for them and their age group to maximize brain development.
​Why for children?
As seen from the graph below on the "Aging-Effect on Cognitive Skills," cognitive skills grow in children from birth to about 20 years. To optimize this growth, children also need to engage in brain-stimulating exercises, like puzzles, drawings, and poems, to improve their language, creativity, and vocabulary.
Why adults age 50 and above
Cognitive skills decline after age 50 because people are busy only with routine work and do not learn any new skills. This, by the age of 65, could cause decline further to a level of minor cognitive loss, cognitive loss, or severe cognitive loss (dementia). ​
The "3-in-1 skills" puzzle books, "KeeYa and KeeYu visit Earth" Volumes 1 and 2, combine pictures and poems as clues to speed up the improvement process in their cognitive skills before it is too late. These allow the brain to form new neural pathways. The process is called " Neuroplasticity".

I am very fortunate that after spending my professional corporate life overseas, I can now spend my retired life in my San Francisco Bay Area home, following my passions in creative writing, art, and music.
